Questions families ask
The Most
Choosing in-home care is a significant decision, and it's natural to have questions. We've answered the ones we hear most often below, and if yours isn't here, please don't hesitate to reach out. No question is too small.
Getting Started
-
In-home care is often the right fit when someone needs support with daily tasks — bathing, meals, medication reminders, companionship — but still wants to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own home. It's also a meaningful option for families who are carrying the weight of caregiving themselves and need reliable, trusted help. If you're unsure, we're happy to have a no-pressure conversation to help you think it through. We'd rather help you find the right answer than rush you toward a decision.
-
We start with a simple, unhurried conversation — by phone or in person, whichever you prefer. We'll listen to what's going on, ask a few questions, and begin to understand what your family needs. From there, we schedule an in-home assessment where we get to know your loved one, their routines, and what matters most to them. That's the foundation we build every care plan on.
-
We offer flexible scheduling to fit a range of needs — from a few hours a week to full-time daily care. During our initial conversation, we'll talk through what level of support makes sense and find a schedule that works for your family.
-
We understand that sometimes the need for care arises quickly. Once we've completed our initial assessment and matched your loved one with the right caregiver, we work to begin services as promptly as possible, typically within 24-48 hours. Contact us and we'll let you know what's realistic given your timeline.
Our Caregivers
-
Every HomeLife caregiver goes through a thorough screening process, including background checks and reference verification. But beyond credentials, we look for something harder to measure — genuine warmth, dependability, and a natural ability to connect with people.
We hire slowly and carefully, because the people we bring onto our team are the people we're trusting with yours.
-
Yes. Consistency is something we take seriously. We match clients and caregivers thoughtfully, and we work hard to keep those relationships stable. Familiar faces matter, especially for individuals with dementia or those who are adjusting to receiving care for the first time.
-
We take our matching process seriously, but we also know that sometimes things just don't click, and that's okay. If at any point you or your loved one feels the match isn't right, tell us. We'll listen without defensiveness and work quickly to find someone who feels like a better fit.
Dementia & Alzheimer’s Care
-
Yes. Dementia and Alzheimer's care requires a different kind of attentiveness: an ability to stay calm, redirect gently, and meet someone where they are in the moment. Our caregivers receive specialized training in person-centered dementia care, and we continually invest in building that expertise across our team.
-
Yes. We work with individuals and families across all stages of the disease. As needs evolve, we adapt the care plan accordingly, always in close communication with family members and, where appropriate, other members of the care team.
-
We know that families carry a great deal emotionally and practically. We make it a priority to keep you informed and involved, and we're always available to talk through what you're observing or feeling. We also offer respite care for family caregivers who need a break. You don't have to carry this alone.
Costs & Coverage
-
Cost varies depending on the level of care, the number of hours, and your specific circumstances. We're happy to walk you through our rates during an initial conversation. We believe in being transparent about pricing so families can plan with confidence.
-
HomeLife is a private pay agency, so we do not accept Medicare or Medicaid. However, we do work with long-term care insurance, and we're happy to help you understand how your policy may apply to the cost of care. If you're unsure what coverage you have, we can walk through that with you. Please don't hesitate to reach out.
-
Absolutely. Needs change, and we expect care plans to evolve. We conduct regular check-ins with families to make sure the level and type of care remains the right fit. Adjustments can be made as circumstances shift; more hours, different services, or a different kind of support altogether.
